1. Union Bath & Spa
A visit to Union Bath & Spa is recommended regardless of the season or weather. On sunny days, there are few things better than relaxing on one of our sunbeds in the garden. If you're unlucky with the weather during your visit to Geiranger, we recommend enjoying the day in Union Spa. Here you can relax, feel the warmth from the fireplace, and lean back in one of the comfortable armchairs. Enjoy a good lunch in the garden or in Café Løsta by the pool area. 2. Visit a Fjord Farm
The hike to the famous fjord farm Skageflå is one of the most well-known and popular hikes in Geiranger - and with good reason! The view when you reach the farm is stunning, with a panoramic view of the fjord, the waterfalls "Dei sju systrene," and the fjord farm Knivsflå. You can choose to hike round trip from Geiranger to Skageflå, but the route we recommend is to take a sightseeing boat or rib boat to Skagehola, hike the trail up to the farm, continue over the mountain to Homlungsetra, and then down to Homlung before returning to Geiranger center. This is a somewhat demanding hike of about 3-4 hours. It's also possible to visit other, slightly less known fjord farms like Knivsflå or Blomberg, but be aware that all these farms are privately owned, so show respect for their property and make sure not to litter! If you'd like tips for other hikes you can do in Geiranger, we've gathered our best tips here: link
3. Fosseråsa - Norway's First National Tourist Path
"Fosseråsa" was the first hiking trail in Norway to receive the status of a "National Tourist Path." You can choose whether you want to start the hike all the way down by the fjord and walk up the "Fossevandringa" along the spectacular Storfossen, or if you'd rather start from the hotel. The trail continues up "Mørkja" to Vesterås farm (starting point at the end of the parking lot outside the hotel). Follow the signs further to Storsæterfossen. The hike from the hotel up to Storsæterfossen will take about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive at Storsæterfossen, you can choose to take the stone staircase down and behind the waterfall itself! A must is to take a selfie with the waterfall in the background.
4. Fjord Sightseeing Tour
A fjord sightseeing tour on the Geirangerfjord is an absolute must when visiting Geiranger. Get up close to the famous waterfalls "Dei sju søstrene" (The Seven Sisters), "Friaren" (The Suitor), and "Brudesløret" (The Bridal Veil), and hear stories about the people who lived on the farms along the fjord. Choose between a sightseeing tour with MS Geirangerfjord or an action-packed rib boat tour with high speed. For more information, visit link.
5. Scenic Drive to the Top
Take the trip up to Geiranger Skywalk Dalsnibba, 1500 meters above sea level. There's a road all the way up, and at the top, you'll find a spectacular viewpoint with a panoramic view of mountains and fjords. Here you'll also find a shop and a café where you can sit down, enjoy the view with a cup of coffee, and have a snack. For more information, visit link. PS: On sunny days, we highly recommend going up to the top of Dalsnibba to experience the sunset! It's a beautiful sight!
6. Zipline and Via Ferrata
If you're looking for some action and adrenaline, we recommend a visit to the nature park of Explore Geiranger. Here you can try ziplining and via ferrata along the Geiranger River, and if you want it even more adventurous, they also offer rappelling from Flydalsjuvet! For more information, visit link.
7. Kayak on the Geirangerfjord
A kayak tour on the Geirangerfjord is perhaps the best way to experience the fjord. Here you get really close to nature while paddling quietly out on the fjord. Geiranger Fjordservice offers both kayak rental and guided kayak tours. For more information, visit link
8. Waffles with a View
Take a trip up to Vesterås farm (we recommend hiking up from the hotel, approximately 20-30 minutes). Up at the farm, you'll find a cozy restaurant in the old barn where you can get both lunch and dinner dishes, as well as the world's best waffles with salted caramel sauce and ice cream! If the weather is nice, you can sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the view. If you want to go a little further, we highly recommend continuing the trip to Vesteråsfjellet or Løsta. Two fantastic viewpoints with panoramic views of the fjord. Remember to say hello to the goats and llamas along the way!
9. Waterfall Walk & Norwegian Fjord Center
Walk the spectacular "Fossevandringa" from the hotel down to the center. Stop by the Norwegian Fjord Center and learn more about the world heritage, local history, nature, and landscape forms. Here you can visit charming shops, the Geiranger Gallery, and enjoy a good lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants. Remember to stop by Geiranger Chocolate for a tasty souvenir.
10. Explore Geiranger with a Twizy
A cool and fun way to explore Geiranger is to rent an electric Twizy! A small, quirky electric car with two seats. Here you'll get audio guidance so you can learn more about Geiranger on the way.
